Community Guidelines

Last Updated: April 12, 2026

Kalaloka is a home for writers and readers who love Indian languages and storytelling. These Community Guidelines help keep our platform safe, respectful, and creative. They apply to all content and interactions on Kalaloka, including stories, poems, articles, comments, messages, profiles, and any other content you create or share.

By using Kalaloka, you agree to follow these guidelines. Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent ban, depending on the severity.

1. What We Encourage

  • Original storytelling: Share your own stories, poems, articles, and creative writing in any Indian language (or English). Kalaloka celebrates originality.
  • Respectful interaction: Engage thoughtfully with other writers and readers. Constructive feedback helps everyone grow.
  • Cultural expression: Explore themes from Indian culture, mythology, folklore, history, and daily life. We welcome all perspectives and voices.
  • Series and long-form writing: Build a readership through serialized stories and multi-chapter works.
  • Community participation: Join writing competitions, follow your favorite authors, share content with friends, and contribute to a vibrant creative community.
  • Mature themes handled responsibly: Stories may address difficult or mature themes (violence, relationships, social issues) when treated with literary purpose. We distinguish between art that explores darkness and content that glorifies it.

2. What Is Not Allowed

2.1 Absolutely Prohibited (Zero Tolerance)

The following will result in immediate account termination and may be reported to law enforcement:

  • Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM): Any sexual content involving minors, including fictional depictions. We have a strict zero-tolerance policy and report all instances to NCMEC and Indian authorities.
  • Content promoting terrorism or violent extremism.
  • Content inciting violence against specific individuals or groups.
  • Non-consensual intimate content (real or deepfake images/descriptions of real people).

2.2 Prohibited Content

  • Plagiarism: Passing off someone else's work as your own. This includes copying content from other platforms, books, or authors without permission and proper attribution. If you are inspired by or adapting another work, clearly credit the original.
  • Hate speech: Content that attacks or demeans people based on race, ethnicity, religion, caste, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin.
  • Harassment and bullying: Targeting other users with insults, threats, intimidation, or repeated unwanted contact — whether in comments, messages, or content.
  • Obscenity: Pornographic content or content that is obscene under Indian law (Section 292 IPC, Section 67 IT Act). Note: tasteful romantic content is allowed; explicit pornographic content is not.
  • Glorification of violence: Content that celebrates, promotes, or provides instructions for real-world violence, self-harm, or suicide.
  • Spam and manipulation:
    • Repetitive or mass-posted content.
    • Fake reviews, inflated engagement, or view/follower manipulation.
    • Deceptive content designed to trick users into clicking, sharing, or spending money.
    • Unauthorized commercial promotion or advertising.
  • Misinformation: Deliberately false or misleading information that could cause real-world harm, particularly regarding health, safety, elections, or communal issues.
  • Doxxing: Publishing private personal information about others (real names, addresses, phone numbers, etc.) without their consent.
  • Impersonation: Pretending to be another person, author, or official account.
  • Copyright infringement: Uploading content you do not have the rights to share. See our Copyright Policy for details.

3. Content Rating and Mature Content

Kalaloka supports mature themes in literature but requires authors to use appropriate content ratings:

  • All Ages: Suitable for all readers.
  • Teen (13+): May include mild violence, mild language, or romantic themes.
  • Mature (18+): May include strong violence, strong language, intense themes, or sexual content (non-explicit).

Misrating content (tagging mature content as "All Ages") is a violation and may result in content removal or restriction.

4. Author Conduct

As an author on Kalaloka, you are expected to:

  • Publish only content you have the right to share (original work or properly licensed content).
  • Respond respectfully to reader comments and feedback.
  • Not use fake accounts to boost your own content metrics.
  • Not engage in follow-for-follow schemes or artificial engagement tactics.
  • Properly tag content with appropriate genres, languages, and content ratings.
  • Respect the privacy and boundaries of other community members.
  • Not solicit readers to move transactions or communications off-platform to avoid Platform fees or policies.

5. Chat and Messaging Guidelines

When using Kalaloka's messaging features:

  • Do not send unsolicited promotional messages or spam.
  • Do not send threatening, harassing, or sexually explicit messages.
  • Do not share other users' private messages publicly without their permission.
  • Do not use messaging to solicit personal information from other users.
  • Respect users who do not wish to receive messages from you.

6. Reporting Content

If you see content that violates these guidelines, please report it. You can:

  • Use the "Report" button on any piece of content, comment, or profile.
  • Email us at support@kalaloka.buzz with details and a link to the content.

All reports are reviewed by our moderation team. We will not disclose the identity of the reporter to the reported user.

7. Moderation Actions

Depending on the severity and frequency of violations, we may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Warning: A notification that your content or behavior violates our guidelines. You will be asked to correct the issue.
  • Content Removal: The violating content will be removed from the Platform. You will be notified with a reason.
  • Content Restriction: Content may be restricted (hidden from recommendations, search, or public feeds) rather than fully removed.
  • Feature Restriction: Certain features (commenting, messaging, publishing, monetization) may be temporarily disabled.
  • Temporary Suspension: Your account will be temporarily suspended for a defined period (7 days, 30 days, etc.).
  • Permanent Ban: Your account will be permanently terminated. This is reserved for severe or repeated violations.
  • Legal Action and Reporting: For illegal content (CSAM, terrorism, etc.), we will report to law enforcement and cooperate with investigations.

8. Appeal Process

If you believe a moderation action against your content or account was made in error, you can appeal:

  1. Email support@kalaloka.buzz with the subject line "Moderation Appeal".
  2. Include your username, the content or action in question, and your explanation for why you believe the decision was incorrect.
  3. Appeals are reviewed within 7 business days.
  4. We will notify you of the outcome. If the appeal is successful, the moderation action will be reversed.
  5. Decisions on appeals related to zero-tolerance violations (CSAM, terrorism) are final.

9. Changes to These Guidelines

We may update these Community Guidelines from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated through the Platform. Your continued use of Kalaloka after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated guidelines.
